The Sunya Bowl is a compact Himalayan singing bowl created by Santa Ratna Shakya in Nepal. It is designed for quiet personal practice, evening relaxation and attentive listening rather than group sessions.

The Meaning of “Sunya”

Sunya means “zero” and can also evoke emptiness or open space. In the explanation associated with this bowl, the name refers to a quieter mental space in which the listener follows the sound until it fades.

One Compact Size

The Sunya Bowl is available in one size of approximately 11 cm in diameter. Small variations in size, tone, engraving and finish are normal because each bowl is handmade.

Stupa and Newa Script

One side features a Buddhist stupa motif. The opposite side carries characters in Prachalit Newa script, the traditional writing system of the Kathmandu Valley. These decorative elements reflect the Newa cultural context of Santa Ratna Shakya's work.

A Simple Listening Ritual

1. Place the bowl on a stable surface or cushion near your meditation space.
2. Strike it gently once with a suitable mallet.
3. Listen to the fundamental tone and its resonance until the sound fades.
4. Repeat two or three times if desired.
