Why choose a singing bowl by musical note?

Handmade bowls naturally vary in diameter, weight and frequency. Selecting by note reverses the usual process: we first identify the required fundamental frequency, then choose a bowl whose measured note falls within our tolerance. This is useful when you want to:

• complete an existing singing bowl set;
• build a seven-note or chromatic set one bowl at a time;
• replace one missing or damaged note;
• select a lower, medium or higher octave for a specific use;
• choose the traditional note associated with a chakra.

Available notes and collections

Patinated, carved and Super Fine Carved bowls can sometimes be sourced outside the directly listed octave when stock and production allow. Full Moon bowls in the 2nd and 4th octaves are considerably rarer, so they are not offered as a standard wholesale selection. For an unusual note or octave, send us your request on WhatsApp.

Reference frequencies from F2 to B4

The following rounded frequencies use equal temperament with A4 = 440 Hz. The 2nd-octave online range starts at F2 because lower notes require very large bowls and cannot be supplied with the same regularity and precision.

How HSB measures and validates a note

Our selection is always based on the bowl’s fundamental frequency. Singing bowls also produce harmonics, but these overtones are not used to assign the musical note. We measure with tools such as Soundcorset, Spectroid and dedicated frequency meters. Devices are cross-checked regularly and normally agree within 1 Hz.

A bowl is accepted only when its measured fundamental deviates by less than 3% from the target frequency. For example, C3 is approximately 131 Hz; a bowl at 138 Hz is not accepted as C3 because that frequency belongs around C#3. The tolerance accommodates the natural variation of a hand-hammered instrument without confusing two neighbouring notes.

Selection is made by frequency, not by fixed dimensions. Weight and diameter therefore remain approximate. The figures below are working averages for our standard 7-metal bowls and help calculate the product and shipping price.

440 Hz and 432 Hz selection

More than 99% of our note-based orders use the standard A4 = 440 Hz reference. We can also select a bowl using A4 = 432 Hz. The required weight may be slightly different, but HSB applies the same listed product price. Select the corresponding 440 Hz note and tell us before selection that you require the 432 Hz reference.

Frequently asked questions

Do you measure the fundamental or the harmonics?

We always assign the note from the fundamental frequency. Harmonics are part of the bowl’s sound, but they are not used for note selection.

Is the selected frequency exact?

These are handmade instruments. We guarantee a deviation of less than 3% from the target fundamental frequency and cross-check our measuring tools to approximately 1 Hz.

Can I order every note in every octave?

The standard online range is F2–B2, C3–B3 and C4–B4 for 7-metal bowls, including sharps. Other finishes and Full Moon bowls have more limited regular availability. Contact us for a specific request.

Can I order in 432 Hz?

Yes. Select the corresponding 440 Hz product and specify A4 = 432 Hz through WhatsApp. The listed product price remains the same.

Can I receive a video of the selected bowl?

Yes. A quality-control video can be provided after selection. Live selection is a separate service arranged through WhatsApp.
