Why HSB Checks Singing Bowls Before Shipping

A short introduction to HSB’s checks before shipping, with the full guide to size ranges, sound checks and musical-note selection.

Two handmade singing bowls can look similar while differing in weight, feel and sound. Before an order leaves Kathmandu, checking the selected instruments helps us confirm what will actually be sent and how it relates to the customer’s request.

From selection to the finished bowl

For HSB ranges that receive a final patina, carving or custom design, selection can begin before finishing. We then check the finished bowl again before packing. The team looks at its condition, shape and finish, listens to its response, and checks the specifications relevant to the order. Collections made by partner artisans keep the identity of their original makers while passing through HSB’s selection and inspection process.

The order determines what is measured

A bowl ordered by size is selected within the stated size band. The published weight is an average guide, so individual handmade bowls can vary. When a customer orders a specific musical note, we measure the fundamental frequency and apply a deviation strictly below 3% from the target. This frequency rule does not mean every size-based order has a specified note, or that weight is guaranteed to a percentage.
