Recent Update on the Landscape of Singing Bowl Manufactures in Nepal
Behind every singing bowl lies not only tradition, but a modern production reality that has evolved rapidly in Nepal over the past few years. Understanding today’s key manufactures is essential to grasp how craftsmanship, innovation, and scale now coexist in the Nepali singing bowl ecosystem.
Nepal remains the historical and cultural heart of handmade singing bowls. While this tradition spans centuries, the modern landscape of singing bowl manufacturing has evolved significantly in recent years. New workshops have emerged, established masters have relocated or expanded their operations, and industrial-scale players have entered the market.
Below is a non-exhaustive and up-to-date overview of the most influential singing bowl manufactures currently operating in Nepal.
Tuladhar Singing Bowl House — Bungamati (Opened 2025)
Suman Tuladhar is one of the most influential new-generation figures in the Kathmandu singing bowl market. In a relatively short time, he has established a dominant position in both wholesale and retail distribution within the local ecosystem.
In the summer of 2025, he opened a new manufacture in Bungamati, a traditional artisan village south of Kathmandu, historically renowned for wood carving and craftsmanship.

What clearly distinguishes Suman Tuladhar is his research-driven approach. His workshop actively experiments with new alloy compositions, aiming to create bowls with novel tonal characteristics and resonance profiles. This focus on acoustic experimentation places his manufacture at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary sound exploration.

In 2024, he opened Singing Bowl Village, located approximately 26 km south of Kathmandu. While production volumes remain deliberately limited, the bowls produced there are visually refined, carefully finished, and musically consistent.
This manufacture represents a strategic expansion rather than a move toward mass production. Given Narendra Lama’s reputation, expertise, and professional network, this workshop is widely expected to grow and gain influence in the coming years.

Himalayan Singing Bowl Center — Pharping / Dakshinkali (Move 2021)
Santa Ratna Shakya is the most historically established and internationally recognized name in modern singing bowl production.
Originally based in Patan, his large-scale manufacture was relocated after COVID to Pharping, offering increased space and improved production flexibility.
He is best known for his Full Moon singing bowls, which remain a global benchmark for quality, tonal balance, and craftsmanship. Despite the emergence of new actors, Santa Ratna Shakya continues to be the most reputable reference for contemporary handcrafted bowls, particularly in the premium segment.

Shalimar Group — Birgunj (Opened 2024)
Shalimar Group is a national industrial group, originally active in construction and metallurgy, that has entered the singing bowl market very recently.
Their manufacture, located in Birgunj, operates at very high capacity using a near-industrial workflow:
- hammering during the night
- engraving and customization during the day

While the bowls remain handcrafted, the production logic is clearly industrial. Shalimar benefits from:
- massive production volumes
- extremely competitive pricing
- integrated metal sourcing and processing
Some artisans move between Shalimar and other major workshops, including Santa Ratna Shakya’s, reflecting the fluidity of skilled labor within Nepal’s singing bowl ecosystem.
Shalimar also acts as a supplier for other market players, reinforcing its role as a backbone manufacturer rather than a purely artisanal brand.
