Patan Singing Bowls
Patan Singing Bowls are handcrafted exclusively by Kalyan Tamrakar and the artisans of Cottage Craft in Patan, Nepal, then distributed internationally by HSB. Their distinctive fine hammering and Kalyan Tamrakar’s own seven-metal alloy produce bowls that are generally thinner, lighter in smaller sizes and deeper in tone than standard HSB 7 Metal bowls.
Choose a diameter from 12 to 28 cm. A 12 cm selection means an actual diameter from 12.0 to 12.9 cm. Selection by fundamental note is also available with a deviation strictly below 3%; use our Singing Bowls by Note range or contact us for assistance.
Base price: €58 per kilogram, excluding shipping. Automatic volume discounts of up to 15% can reduce the price to approximately €50 per kilogram. Because smaller Patan bowls are often lighter, their final price for a given diameter can be lower even though their price per kilogram is higher.

Patan Singing Bowls by Kalyan Tamrakar
Patan Singing Bowls are made by Kalyan Tamrakar and the artisans of Cottage Craft in the Patan Industrial Estate of the Kathmandu Valley. HSB does not manufacture this collection: we select and distribute it internationally.
The principal difference is the hammering method. Patan bowls are hammered more finely than standard universal-form singing bowls and use Kalyan Tamrakar’s own seven-metal alloy. This generally creates a thinner bowl with a deep, responsive sound. The overall workmanship is slightly more refined than many standard bowls, but the main reason to choose Patan is their distinctive weight-to-size ratio and sound profile rather than an exaggerated difference in quality.
Sizes and Approximate Weights
The available range starts at 12 cm and extends to 28 cm. Each size represents a precise one-centimetre interval: for example, a 12 cm bowl measures from 12.0 to 12.9 cm. This is a size bracket, not a measurement tolerance.
The weights below are indicative averages. Handmade production naturally creates variation between bowls. Most averages come from our measurement study of approximately 80 Patan bowls; the 18, 27 and 28 cm values are practical estimates pending a larger sample.
| Selected size | Actual diameter | Approx. average weight |
|---|---|---|
| 12 cm | 12.0–12.9 cm | 327 g |
| 13 cm | 13.0–13.9 cm | 407 g |
| 14 cm | 14.0–14.9 cm | 427 g |
| 15 cm | 15.0–15.9 cm | 487 g |
| 16 cm | 16.0–16.9 cm | 629 g |
| 17 cm | 17.0–17.9 cm | 678 g |
| 18 cm | 18.0–18.9 cm | about 800 g* |
| 19 cm | 19.0–19.9 cm | 942 g |
| 20 cm | 20.0–20.9 cm | 1,047 g |
| 21 cm | 21.0–21.9 cm | 1,174 g |
| 22 cm | 22.0–22.9 cm | 1,303 g |
| 23 cm | 23.0–23.9 cm | 1,493 g |
| 24 cm | 24.0–24.9 cm | 1,699 g |
| 25 cm | 25.0–25.9 cm | 2,035 g |
| 26 cm | 26.0–26.9 cm | 2,092 g |
| 27 cm | 27.0–27.9 cm | about 2,400 g* |
| 28 cm | 28.0–28.9 cm | about 2,600 g* |
*Indicative estimate. The exact weight of the selected bowl is used to calculate the final product and shipping price.

Why Patan Bowls Can Cost Less for the Same Diameter
Patan bowls cost €58 per kilogram, which is more than a standard HSB 7 Metal bowl. However, the finer hammering often makes small and medium Patan bowls lighter for the same diameter. Their final price by size can therefore be lower. In larger diameters, handmade variation is greater and a Patan bowl may be as heavy as, or heavier than, a standard bowl.
Automatic cart discounts apply across qualifying orders: 5% from €500, 10% from €1,000 and 15% from €2,000, reducing the Patan rate to approximately €50/kg at the highest tier. Equivalent thresholds apply in other supported currencies.
Selection by Size or Musical Note
Ordering by size guarantees the selected diameter bracket. It does not guarantee a particular note. If you need to complete a set or target a fundamental frequency, choose a Patan bowl through our Singing Bowls by Musical Note and Frequency range or contact us on WhatsApp.
For note selection, we measure the fundamental frequency and accept a deviation strictly below 3% from the target note. This percentage applies only to musical-note selection, never to the diameter bracket.
Recommended Uses
- Individual practice and meditation: smaller and medium sizes are portable and easy to play.
- Sound massage and one-to-one sessions: the thinner construction and deep response make Patan bowls an interesting alternative to standard universal bowls.
- Professional sets: selected notes can be combined into a Patan singing bowl set.
- Yoga and wellness spaces: larger diameters provide greater presence and sustain for guided sessions.
Effects vary with the bowl, playing technique, environment and listener. These instruments support musical, meditative and wellness practices and are not medical devices.

Care and Playing
- Wipe the bowl with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive products and harsh chemicals.
- Use a suitable mallet and place the bowl on your open palm or an appropriate cushion so it can vibrate freely.
- Strike gently or circle the rim with steady pressure. Different mallets emphasize different aspects of the sound.
- Protect the bowl from impacts and use padding when stacking or transporting several bowls.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who makes Patan Singing Bowls?
They are made by Kalyan Tamrakar and Cottage Craft in Patan. HSB selects and distributes the collection but does not manufacture it.

Are accessories included?
Accessories are normally sold separately. Contact us if you need help choosing the correct mallet, cushion or carrying solution.
