Double-Ended Gong Mallet

Discover a fluid and intuitive way to awaken your gong. This compact double-ended gong mallet features two generously sized, soft textile-covered heads connected by a centrally shaped wooden handle. Its balanced design allows the player to hold it comfortably in one hand and move the wrist gently from side to side.

Each movement brings one mallet head, then the other, into contact with the gong. The sequence of alternating strikes creates a regular pulsation that can gradually build the gong’s vibration, volume and richness.

Unlike a conventional single-headed mallet, there is no need to reset the hand after every strike. The two heads work together, making it easier to maintain a continuous rhythmic flow and progressively bring the gong into resonance.

Why use a double-ended gong mallet?

Produces rapid and regular alternating strikes

Helps build vibration progressively

Creates a continuous, flowing rhythmic pulse

Allows intuitive control of speed and intensity

Comfortable central grip

Compact and easy to manipulate with one hand

Suitable for gong baths, sound meditation and experimental playing

Can also be explored with large singing bowls and other compatible percussion instruments

How to play

Hold the wooden handle comfortably at its centre. Position the mallet in front of the gong and begin with a gentle side-to-side movement of the wrist. One head strikes the gong, followed by the opposite head on the return movement: left – right – left – right.

Start slowly and softly. Once the gong begins to respond, gradually increase the speed or amplitude of the movement to build a denser and more powerful vibration. The technique can produce anything from a gentle heartbeat-like pulse to an intense, continuous rolling effect.

An intuitive tool for gong and sound practices

The alternating motion makes this mallet especially useful for gong baths, sound meditation, wellness sessions and experimental performance. It enables the player to create a sustained rhythmic progression while keeping the gesture natural and compact.

Its two broad, soft-covered heads produce a rounded attack designed to activate the gong without an excessively sharp impact.

Visual playing guide

Hold in the centre → move the wrist from side to side → alternate both heads → gradually build the gong’s vibration.

Playing advice and precautions

Begin with light strokes and allow the gong to respond before increasing the intensity. The appropriate force depends on the gong’s size, thickness and construction. For the best control, keep the hand relaxed and generate the movement mainly from the wrist. Always test the mallet gently when using it with a new instrument.

Use controlled, progressive movements. Avoid striking too hard, particularly on smaller or lightweight instruments. Make sure there is sufficient space around the gong for both mallet heads to move freely. This product is a musical instrument accessory and is not a toy.
